The first time I saw Mahogany Rush was when they opened for Black Sabbath in San Diego. It was the Sabotage tour in 75. Frank stole the show. I saw them again at Cal Jam 2. Again, he torched the place. If you say he is underrated, you never saw him play live.

I saw mahogany rush at the tangerine bowl in Florida. It was a all-day festival after mahogany Rush Aerosmith played and then Ted Nugent and not for nothing but looking back on it now. Frank Marino rip Ted Nugent a new butthole especially in recent times when Mr. Ted has his big mouth going more than his guitar about the way of the world. I'll take Marino's take on things any day of the week compared to that moron ! See you Ted. There's plenty enough music to go around.

No words to describe the magnitude of Frank's talent and influence in Rock history. One of the greatest tragedies of our times is how criminally underrated this giant of a man is! Frank & Mahagony Rush were my 1st concert as a teenager in San Diego, 1983. You never forget your 1st girl nor your 1st concert. It was the 1st time I smoked weed also, thanks to a generous fellow fan standing next to me. These were the days!

Back in 79 in Lake Charles La im sure i was the only black guy in the civic center that night to see him, but a friend of mines from Chicago turned me on to him while at GSU in early 77 and i was hooked. Had just gotten turned to Hendrix, Maggot Brain and music i'd always liked but being of my so called ethnicity most ppl in my neighborhood didn't listen to rock. I've always liked music no matter who made it. FM had it sounding lime WW III was popping off that night. Have always loved any music w/ guitar. And i didn't have to be high to listen to it. LOL

A neighbor was listening to MR oneday way back in 78 when I was 15. I loved it. I went out & bought every 8 track I could find. Today they’ve all been replaced by cd’s which I listen to often & every time I do someone always ask me who’s that?! I have never saw him live but had tickets to see him at Rams Head in Balto MD that was cancelled because of Covid. 😢 How disappointing. I wish they would have played more MH on the radio back then because they would have had s much bigger following.

I hope I can get well enough to send frank, (HOW) the "master Tape" of his March 3rd Park West concert in Chicago. It is SO MUCH BETTER than this and this is great. They were in Europe warming up for AMERICA. The guy has 2 $ 800 microphones up his sleeve and got a booth 30-40 feet from the stage. And you hear me yelling as he hits the first note of this. This is in Sweden like 5 weeks before me and my friends caught him on an unusual balmy evening in March Chicago weather. Yeah! I'd like to send the 2 tapes to him Russ.

Ok. So I said it 2 years ago. You can never say it enough to anyone. Frank Marino’s music touched me like Hendrix. It was the only other music that had the magic I looked for in music. Sure. I love Tull, made me wish I’d played flute. And other great musicians and composers. But how I miss going to see Frank Marino live like I did so many times as a younger man! We started our journey of live concerts with him ,it was New Jersey. Aerosmith headlined. But went to see the man! Then many more times. Biggest arena was the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Where I’m from. We’d go to Ripley’s music hall. I remember looking into Franks eyes. I’d see him look down and he probably thought I was nuts cause the way he played made me feel like I was on a journey! A Cool one at that! So God bless you Frank Marino. I started as a drummer. Still play them as much as possible cause it was my first love as a toddler! My oldest half brother used to work my hands as I sat behind a double bass blue sparkle Ludwig kit. It seemed so huge. I have a picture of me on it and my feet don’t quite reach the peddles yet! I got my kit a pink champagne sparkle 3 piece at 8th Street music. Was here in Philly. Then after playing and listening to music I loved I started to learn a few chords. I’ll never forget the first time I bent a note on a string. I did that for days with Johnny Winter on in the background. It took me years to actually switch to guitar. And now I think why did I have to switch. I can still play drums and enjoy them. It’s the best exercise ever I believe. Especially if you’re going at it! I played in a band with 2 other friends who played guitar. What a great experience it was for me. They’d both played a lot longer than I did. But we’d do harmonies. And play clubs. People said” i thought you played the drums”. I said yes,I did. It was a huge compliment and confidence boost. I played in little bands after a few gigs. Then a fantastic friend and bass player. Dennis Penn.Rip Dennis. He thought I was really good so I started doing songs I’d written over the years. Nothing like the music Frank made. Not many can do that. Or Hendrix. The same thing. Usually it’s a bad impression of the music. Anyway it’s June 26th 8 am. I woke up hearing “Man at the Back Door” from IV. The emperor. So I posted it on my music site. Rock For Everyone. I made it about 15 years ago. I noticed other sites had rules? what no Jazz. Blues? F that. I started my own. Now an old friend runs it with me. His musical taste is different so I thought it’d make it better. He had a brother who played guitar in a hair metal band. Made good money. Me. I wasn’t into that much. A few good players here and there but mostly made me uncomfortable? I really don’t know why. I guess I could never see myself dressing up like that! If I did it’d be scary as all heck. Believe me! Ok back to today. June 26. 2024. God bless you Frank Marino. Your family and all you love. I doubt you’ll ever see this but I’ll say it anyway. I did one song so far. It’s sort of Jazz-Rock. Atmospheric Changes is what I called it. I play at home. Record some stuff. Did a few Mahogany pieces. All in Your Mind That one wasn’t too bad. The rest I’d leave alone. So I see the woman in the picture. I think, “ I wish that was me watching Frank play. I love his music. Never really wanted to be a clone of anyone. Which is good cause I’m not nearly talented enough to be one anyway. I never wanted to try and make it at music. I had a little family. When I was a kid I didn’t. So it was what I wanted most in life. Thanks to God for all things being possible! amen

🎯💯👌🏾 Jimmy’s drumming is awesome full stop. I’ve always held Rock, Funk and Jazz drummers in high regard. As far as I’m concerned (I know this might upset some) he’s up with Billy Cobham, Idris Muhammed, Clyde Stubblefield & Jabo Starks, Omar Hakim, and Michael Shrieve… I say that based on the wider body of his performances, not just this track (in case anyone had that impression! 😅).
